Inheritance for God's Ministers

These sections may seem like a legal document, but what they are the evidence that God keeps his promises.

Last week we looked at the general population, but this week we look at the last group, the Levites. They are a special group for they ministers to God's temple.

Intro

They receive 48 cities. They do not get their own land like the other tribes. They get the cities instead.

The Background

  • Genesis 49:5-7 - they are scattered as a curse.
  • Exodus 32:26-29 - but got redeems them
  • Numbers 18:6 - they are set aside for a special purpose.
  • Joshua 13:33, Numbers 18:20, Deteruonomy 18:2 - they do not not have an inheritance of land. Their inheritance is the Lord.
What does the scripture mean that the Lord is their inheritance?

What does this passage have to do with us?

There is a special correlation between the Levites of old and our ministers and pastors of today. They are both called to exemplary behavior. They both care for God's flock.

There are differences as well. One is that the Levites had to be from that tribe, pastors can be from all people. This is because all that are in Jesus, through his son-ship gain his very inheritance.

What inheritance Do the Lord's Ministers receive?

1. Minister inherit the presence and pleasure of the Lord.

No land, possession, or any earthly thing comes close to the value of the presence of God himself. There is nothing more valuable than he. The most nobleist pursuit is to seek the pleasure and presence of God. Psalms 16, Psalms 63, Psalms 84. Many of the Psalms are possibly written by the Levites.

What can we do? Pray they our pastors might truly receive this Inhertiance. By giving them opportunity to pursue this. By submitting joyfully to their leadership.

2. Ministers inherit the priestly service of the Lord.

a. The priestly service of worship. In our time the new testament pastors leads us in our sacrifice of praise before our Lord. Let us prepare our hearts and minds for the the conforming of oursleves to Jesus' image. Giving praise and submitting to the good pleasure of the Father.

b. The priestly service of teaching the Lord's word. The Lord's word is life, and so God has ordained that his word be taught amongst all his people always. Ephesians 4:11. They are pastor/teachers. Titus 1:9 Able to give sound instruction. This is a great inheritance, a great Joy!

So let us pray that our pastors might rightly teach the Word of God. Listen, apply it, seek that that same joy for the word of our Lord might rule our lives as well.
