An Inheritance for God's Ministers (Part 2)
What is the inheritance of the minister? We continue with this question.
We looked at Mark 13 this morning in Sunday School. There is no place for these ministers to minister anymore, but we are ministers in Jesus. In Him we have his inheritance, which is the presence of God. That is pretty awesome.
1-2 See last weeks notes...
3. Ministers inherit their provisions from the Lord.
They had space for gardens and such, but not enough for to sustain. So, God provided to them the greater portion of their sustenance. Deuteronomy 18:1-5. Numbers 18:1-32. God paid great attention to the needs of the Levites.
In the NT we also see the abuse of this provision in the gospels. Jesus critisism to the elders is directly at the abuse of these provisions. Mark 12:38-40.
Nehemiah 13:10-13 - Here we see the impact of not bringing the tithe. In the end it affected not just the Levites, but the entire nation.
In correlation modern pastors also have this privilege. 1 Timothy 5:17-18 1 Corinthians 9:11-14. It is important that we do not think of this as a job. It is a ministry. There is vast difference. Be wary of "voting" with your tithe. There is no provision of withholding this support when you have a grudge or disagreement.
4. Ministers inherit an incarnational witness among God's people.
They were in and among God's people, faithfully living out and declaring the word of God. This was not from afar.
1 Timothy 3:1-4 This call to live faithfully is a call to all.
5. Ministers inherit the unity of God's people that comes from their ministry.
As the Levites were serving, the goal was to bring the people together in unity. As our ministers serve, as we all all serve, one of the great joys is to witness the unity that comes from a people who are all being conformed to the image of our savior and Lord, Jesus Christ! Amen to that.
