John 17 - Wednesday Night
Scripture: John 17
Speaker: Doug Martin
Knowing all that Jesus knew, He still reached out and pleaded and prayed for Judas.
Jesus kept track of the time, he knew what time it was. V.1 "Father the hour has come."
"Father, glorify the Son, that the Son may glorify you." To glorify means to make known. All of Jesus' life, all the miracle, everything was intended to make God known.
V.5 The glory that Jesus is asking for is the same glory that existed before the world, the glory that created the world. I would say that this is a good verse to ponder
Doug - people like to say that the disciples were uneducated, that they didn't go to seminary or anything. Yet, they walked, were taught and discipled by the creator of the universe. How is there a better education than that? :)
V. 6-10 Jesus prays for his disciples. V.10 He is glorified in them. Notice the pattern. The father is glorified in the Son, and the Son is glorified in his disciples. Not because of anything that they had done to earn this, but because Jesus was made known in them. He is glorified in them.
V. 20 Jesus then extends all of this to all of us, to those that would believe because of the words of the apostles. That glory is extended to us, that just has Jesus and the Father are one, that we may also be one.
Know this, Jesus never ceases to pray for us, to advocate for us, to be the eternal sacrifice for our sins. We have a high priest, that never leaves, that never fails. Amen! Amen!
So why? V. 13 "that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves" Amen to that!
