Scripture: 1 John 1:5-2:2
Light is critical for life. Light helps life grow. Light helps us see, that we may have understanding. What does walking in the light look like, and how does it give us life?

When we walk in the light...
1. ...we walk in conformity with the character of God. (1:5-7)
.. The heretics believed that only the soul needed life. That the right knowledge would save the soul, and what happened in the body was not important, and could not effect the soul. (gnostics) John tells us here that that is a lie.
..Romans 13:11-14 darkness is cast away. St. Augustine was saved because is mother walked in the light, and through her God brought him those verses in Romans.
..If we truly walk in the light we will love our spouses
.. If we truly walk in light, we love our children, and bring them up in the knowledge and love of the Lord.
.. Walk as children of the light!
2. ...we walk with confidence in God's forgiveness (1:8-10)
.. Some try and say that we cannot sin if we are saved. John is saying we cannot say that we are without sin.
.. What is the remedy? We must confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanses us.
..God is FAITHFUL. He has promised that we are forgiven. This is our confidence and our motivation.
3. ...we walk in the company of other believers. (1:7)
.. In the light , we have fellowship with God, but we are not alone. Our fellowship is not with God alone, but also with each other as well. We are God's people.
..This is a reminder that our relationship with God is not just personal. "You cannot love God and hate your brother", John says. Love is not indifferent. We cannot walk alone in the light and not actively be engaged in the love of those that God loves.
..True Christian fellowship is not just going to a dinner on the grounds, or even just showing up in church. It calls us to encourage one another, that we are accountable to one another, that we intercede and pray for one another.

Are you engaged in the body of Christ
Let us walk in the light as He is in light!
