Judges 5 - The Song Continues
God of Wonders. The one who controls the heavens and the earth. The one who created the heavens and the earth.
How is it that the creation submits to his commands, yet it is man who does not?
v.6-8 The Battle Retold
This section recounts the disaster that precedes Gods salvation. To start, the highways are abandoned probably because of raids and thieves. v.8 There is war in the gates it says. Why? Because "new gods were chosen." For this reason God brought them to this affliction. The people had abandoned God for another refuge. "In His, there is life." Yet, they sought life elsewhere. v.7 The villages ceased to be.
Yet Deborah spoke out and she blesses the Lord because the commanders of Israel offered themselves willingly among the people. For they acknowledged their unworthiness and dependence on God. She then makes the same call to their enemies, to the foreign merchants, the rich oppressors. Every knee shall bow. Then she calls for the news to go out at the watering places. This is similar to proclaiming the information on the news media.
What do they proclaim? The righteous triumphs of the Lord. Think of the things we say in the public square. Do we complain about this issue or that, or should we proclaim God's triumph. What about our prayer requests. Do they not betray our mindset?
