John 19 - I find no fault, but...

In this passage Pilate flogs Jesus first even before condemning him. Jesus is likely receiving in this passage the lighter flogging given to nuisance criminals. The scourging is a different type and is likely what he received before the Crucification. There is also a third type which is the type Paul probably received, the 40 minus one type.

They dress him up with the thorny crown and robe to mock him, to present him in mock fashion. This mocks Jesus, but also is mocking the Jews themselves, by showing his power over their so called king. He gives the Jews an out, but they do not take it. He presents him saying "Behold the man". This harkens back to the first chapter of John when he says, the word became flesh.

I verse 11 the It is not authority, it the whole sequence of events. Pilate only had authority of any source because God had orchestrated all the events to be at that point, not just given him power and let him act as Pilate willed. God is in control of everything.
