To Peter Out...

Why did Peter deny Christ?

The first time... Perhaps this is just a "white" lie from his of view, just to get in the door.

Perhaps fear drives him, after all had cut off the ear of the servant of the high priest. See the final denial.

Also, he may also have denied Jesus because Jesus told Peter he would, that this was God's will.

Ultimately the result is that Jesus in the end is completely alone, abandoned, and condemned. In this we see the power of the cross, and the necessity of the cross as redemption for our sins. Amen.
