Unity and the Prayer

Posted on September 12, 2012 by Unknown

John 17:20-26

Theme of Unity continued

V. 21 That we may have unity with the Father and the Son.

V. 24 that the Father might bring us all physically to the very end to be with him in location.

Why does he pray for these request?.

Why unity of the disciples?

  • That the world might believe the testimony of Jesus. V.21
  • That the world might know the debt of God's love for his own. V.23
  • That the the glory of God might be displayed to his disciples. To reveal everything. V.24
Application

  • This is an example of how to pray. Playing completely in the will of the Father.
  • We can pray these very same requests. Pray for unity, in our church and with other churches as well.
  • Do we apply the pray to our own lives? It is one thing to pray for unity, something else to pray that we, oursleves, would show Christ like love and be unified with our brethren.

Always encouraged and amazed at the discussion and love for God's word that is demonstrated in these Wednesday nights meetings. God is good!

Michael,
John 17 is my favorite chapter of the Bible. There are times that we are all tempted to think that if we do not have a warm fuzzy feeling accompanying our prayers they maybe bouncing back off of the ceiling. Or that somehow something that we have done will disqualify us from the reach of His grace. It gives me great comfort to know that The Son of God Himself has prayed for me. Can you imagine any circumstance that The Father would not honor His requests? That is a rhetorical question.
