John 16 - More Encouragement

Jesus was encouraging his disciples...

  • with words. V. 1-6
  • With the Holy Spirit. V.7-15
  • And in ... V.16-22 with his Death and Resurrection.
So how is Jesus' death an encouragement?

Because it is tied to his resurrection.

We see this trend through all of the new testament. The apostolic teaching almost always centralizes on the resurrection.

V. 23-28 Jesus encourages them with answered pray.

We are brought into the presence of God, because we are in Christ. Furthermore, Jesus is our continual mediator with God on our behalf, our internal intercessor. Jesus is not just the ticket taker, the gatekeeper. He is our ever present help. All through our sanctification, Jesus stands and the right hand of the Father on our behalf.

Jesus centralizes this by saying we are to ask in his name. Through our prayers are joy is made full.

Challenge: pray the scriptures. The psalms are a great place to start this.
