John 16 - The Age of the Spirit

How will the Holy Spirit be an encourager to us?
First Jesus must leave for the Spirit to come.More could be done through the Spirit. The Spirit continues the work of Jesus through the saints. Christ divided by the proclamation of the truth, and the Spirit continues this stuff. Christ is the light of the world, and through the Spirit we are also a light of the world. (Matthew 5:14)
Second, the Spirit will bring conviction. V.8
We are convicted regarding sin, righteousness and judgement.
Confession is agreeing with God regarding our conviction, regarding our sin and offense before him. Sometimes we absolve to quickly. Conviction is a work of grace, and when we turn and repent, the grace can come not by sweeping the offense away, but in acknowledging how much God does in overcoming our sin. This is why universalism is such an empty philosophy.
Third, the Spirit will guide us to the truth.
The Holy Spirit will not only bring back to memory the words of Jesus, but will guide us in the truth. Jesus has already revealed that he is the truth. (see ch 8). The truth has already been revealed in Jesus. What the Spirit is doing in us now is unpacking that truth.
