John 10 - He is our good shepherd. We are is sheep.

John wants us to believe in him: By doing so we receive eternal life.
John wants us to experience the eternal life that comes through belief in Jesus.
So again here in chapter 10 we have the another direct proclamation that Jesus is for certain the Son of God.
V.22 - The feast of Dedication mentioned here is Hanukkah, and we are in that right now. How cool is that!
Jim just did a whole overview of the history of Judah from the exile to Babylon to the time when Hanukkah was established. Awesome. To fast for me to right down, but well done Jim.
V.24-30 Is Jesus the Christ, the Son of God? So up to this point in this and the other gospels, Jesus has made this proclamation privately to his disciples, but not publicly. Why not, one might ask. There was a distorted understanding of the Messiah amongst the people. Many think of the Messiah therefore as a military leader. Jesus , however, has not proclaimed this through the simple words, "I am the Son of God", but instead it is in his works that it is clear that is who he his. There is more.
"25 Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not part of my flock. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."
So what is the problem? They do not believe. Ignorance is not the mother of unbelief, unbelief is the mother of ignorance. The Jews is this case are not looking for evidence that they may believe in Jesus, they are looking for an opportunity to wipe out one that is an annoyance to them.
But these people were not of Jesus' flock. To be in his flock is not found in being in the right group, or the right lineage. To be in his flock is to believe.
What does it mean for those that believe? It means that we are part of his flock.
How do we know that we are his? We know becuase we hear his voice. Under the care of the shepherd the sheep receive life. Eternal Life! Hallelujah!
This was a powerful message tonight. My notes are not giving it justice. I really suggest you check out the recording.
