Scripture: - Hosea 8:1-14 - Listen
- The biblical principle that generally accounts for our life situations: You reap what you sew. (8:7)
- See Part I.
- The primary cause for the difficulty of man's condition is a disregard for God. (8:1-6,9-10,11,14)
- This is a willful disregard for God. It isn't just a forgetfulness.
- How did Israel disregard/forget God?
- The broken covenant - To overcome this, the good seed that we must sow to overcome this is to abide in Christ. We walk with God by abiding in Christ.
- They demonstrated a willful disobedience of God's law. v.11-12
- Like in a marriage vow, we vow to create boundaries to be committed exclusively to God. And so we we follow those vows we are able to experience the fullness of that relationship.
- The law reveals the nature and character of God.
- What seed must we sow to overcome this? To love God, we must walk in his ways. We must obey. Psalm 1:3, Psalm 19-7-11, John 14:41, John 15:10, Ephesians 4:1
- When I set boundaries for my son (age 2.5), sometimes he has other ideas. He wants to continue with what he wants, to reject many good things that I have for him. It breaks our relationship. I don't suddenly hate him, but I love him more than he knows. It simply prevents us from working together for the good things we have to do together. My response to him in these moments is to look him in the eye, reiterate what we have planned, and what he must do for it to occur. Then I ask him, "Do you understand?" And he responds, "Yes,sir." Then many times he continues to yell, "no, no!" Then I look at him and say, "Elias, your must obey." It isn't that I just want the whining to stop. Mostly, I want to do the work together that brings us both so much joy when that obedience is present. God's promises are so much greater than any I could ever give. I think God is asking me, "Do you understand?"
- They demonstrated a rejection of the good things of God.
- Wow Jim, we think alike. I just wrote that above.
- What is our response to the good things of God? It should be thankfulness.
- They failed to seek God's wisdom. v. 4
- Wow, what a scripture to have two days from an election in this country. Do we really seek God's wisdom in these decisions? Or do we only consult the internet, the polls, and the news sites?
- ------To Be Continued.
- The harvest we reap can be broadly categorized in three ways (8:1,5-6,8,10,13-14)
