Thanks to Bob and Nancy Sauls for being our guest note takers on this Sunday. They are a great blessing in our life.
A Picture of Two Walk of Life
Introduction
- Clothing can identify a person, such as a uniform or stripes on a chain gang, a collar on a priest.
- Paul uses clothing as an analogy. Putting off sin and putting on Christ.
- Our former walk of life apart from Christ. (4:17-19, 22)
- Walking = a pattern of life
- Walk not in the pattern of life as the gentiles walk.
- Christian life is radically different from the gentile/pagan life which is totally immoral.
- v. 22 Put off the old life which hardens the heart. (feelings: ignorance, blindness, past feeling).
- God puts a heart of flesh into Israel to vindicate himself among the nations.
- When people are cut off from God there is darkness and it will continue on until God changes the heart. It has been that way since the 'fall'.
- Our new walk of life abiding in Christ. (4:20-24)
- Learned Christ = brokenness over sin and a passion for Him and what He's done.
- Reject the old and adopt the new way.
- Put on clean clothes
- Process that is life-long. Conforming to Christ's image
- Put on/ Put off. Mind renewal is continual (over and over).
- We are shaped by the Word in direct proportion with our exposure to it.
- Jim said, "We must get off our lazy butts and get into the Word!"
- If you are in Christ you will not continue as before. Examine Yourself!
