Thanks to Bob and Nancy Sauls for being our guest note takers on this Sunday. They are a great blessing in our life.
A Picture of Two Walk of Life
Introduction

  • Clothing can identify a person, such as a uniform or stripes on a chain gang, a collar on a priest.
  • Paul uses clothing as an analogy.  Putting off sin and putting on Christ.
  1.  Our former walk of life apart from Christ. (4:17-19, 22)
    • Walking = a pattern of life
    • Walk not in the pattern of life as the gentiles walk.
    • Christian life is radically different from the gentile/pagan life which is totally immoral.
    • v. 22 Put off the old life which hardens the heart. (feelings: ignorance, blindness, past feeling).
      • God puts a heart of flesh into Israel to vindicate himself among the nations.
    • When people are cut off from God there is darkness and it will continue on until God changes the heart. It has been that way since the 'fall'.
  2. Our new walk of life abiding in Christ. (4:20-24)
    • Learned Christ = brokenness over sin and a passion for Him and what He's done.
    • Reject the old and adopt the new way.
    • Put on clean clothes
    • Process that is life-long.  Conforming to Christ's image
    • Put on/ Put off.  Mind renewal is continual (over and over).
    • We are shaped by the Word in direct proportion with our exposure to it.
    • Jim said, "We must get off our lazy butts and get into the Word!"
    • If you are in Christ you will not continue as before.  Examine Yourself!
